The subject of this year’s Portrait of Honour is Max Martin

The 2024 Portrait of Honour depicts songwriter and music producer extraordinaire Max Martin, and was taken by photographer Mikael Jansson. The Portrait of Honour will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle on 13 October, where it will become part of the collection in the Swedish National Portrait Gallery.

Portrait of Honour 2023: Svante Pääbo by Sixten Sandra Österberg

The 2023 Portrait of Honour depicts the geneticist and Nobel laureate Svante Pääbo. Painted in oil on canvas by Sixten Sandra Österberg, the portrait joins the collection of the Swedish National Portrait Gallery and will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle on 28 October.

Portrait of Honour 2022: Britta Marakatt-Labba

The 2022 Portrait of Honour depicts the artist Britta Marakatt-Labba, known around the world for her embroidered images of Sami landscapes with both a poetic and a political message. The portrait is the work of Marja Helander, whose photographs of Sami landscapes, people and culture have won multiple awards.

Leif Mannerström – this year’s Portrait of Honour

The model for this year’s Portrait of Honour is the food profile and restaurateur Leif Mannerström. The portrait was produced by the photographer Bruno Ehrs. He has captured both the model’s personality and his professional identity.

The 2019 Portrait of Honour – Ingegerd Råman

On Saturday, May 25th, this year’s Portrait of Honour will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle. This year’s Portrait of Honour is the professor and designer Ingegerd Råman and was created by the photographer Bruno Ehrs. He has depicted both Ingegerd Råman's artistic ideals and her field of activity as a designer.

Göran Persson is this year’s Portrait of Honour

On Saturday 3 June, the 2017 Portrait of Honour will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle. The subject this year is Göran Persson, the Social Democrat politician and former prime minister. The portrait is the work of Olle Hamngren, who has created a dignified painting in an illusionistic style with many levels.

​Barbro Osher this year’s Portrait of Honour

Saturday 28 May will see the unveiling of the 2016 Portrait of Honour at Gripsholm Castle. This year it depicts Professor Barbro Osher, the Swedish Consul General in San Francisco and a generous philanthropist. The portrait was taken by Thron Ullberg, who faithfully captures both the model’s modest air and her work as a patron of the arts.

On Saturday 13 June, the 2015 Portrait of Honour will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle. The subject this year is Hédi Fried, the writer and psychologist, as portrayed by the photographer Sanna Sjöswärd. It is a subtle, insightful portrait of one of the last living Holocaust survivors.

Mats Ek this year’s Portrait of Honour

Saturday 15 November will see the unveiling of the 2014 Portrait of Honour at Gripsholm Castle. This year, choreographer and director Mats Ek has been captured by photographer Lesley Leslie-Spinks. Mats Ek is renowned for his new interpretations of ballet classics, most recently in the acclaimed Juliet and Romeo.

Hans Blix is this year’s Portrait of Honour

On Saturday 1 June, the 2013 Portrait of Honour will be unveiled at Gripsholm Castle. The subject this year is Hans Blix, who has been portrayed in bronze by sculptor Peter Linde. Dr Blix achieved worldwide recognition for his work on behalf of the international community as director general of the IAEA and chairman of the UN weapons inspection commission.
