Nationalmuseum’s exhibitions 2014
During 2014 Nationalmuseum will have three exhibitions on show in the temporary venue at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Except for Hans Gedda & Masters of Darkness there
will be an exhibition with masterpieces from the collections on show and one
with Russian paintings co-produced with the Russian Museum. Exhibitions in
partnership with Swedavia and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern will also be carried out
and the collaboration with museums and art galleries across Sweden
continues.

Hans Gedda &
Masters of Darkness

A retrospective
exhibition of works by Hans Gedda, one of Sweden’s most notable photographers.
Portraits of Swedish and international celebrities appear alongside still lifes
and semi-documentary images dating from the 1950s to the present day. As a historical counterpoint to Gedda’s imagery,
Nationalmuseum’s collection of early 17th-century Caravaggisti is also on
display.

Over the summer,
a selection of works representing the best of Nationalmuseum will be on show.
Among them will be famous works by artists such as Carl Larsson and Anders
Zorn, as well as less celebrated gems from the museum’s collection. The
exhibition will also include a section dedicated to historical and contemporary
self-portraits.
From Tsars to
Commissars: Russian and Soviet Painting

January 2015
This exhibition,
co-produced with the Russian Museum in St Petersburg, will feature a number of
prominent works from the museum’s collection. It will offer a rich,
multifaceted survey of Russian art history, ranging from early 19th-century
classicism via early 20th-century avant-garde to Stalinist-era realism. Many of
the featured artists will be on show to Swedish audiences for the first time.

Crossing Borders

Airport
Crossing Borders
is the title of an exhibition by Nationalmuseum in Terminal 5 at Stockholm
Arlanda Airport opening in spring 2014. The exhibition will feature
photographic portraits of internationally celebrated Swedish newsmakers who
have challenged and crossed borders in a variety of ways.

Umeå Airport
Umeå is European
Capital of Culture 2014. At the city’s airport, Nationalmuseum will present a
select few of the most interesting Swedish design creations of recent years.

Baroque

This exhibition
will highlight the close connections between the baroque era and the present
day, placing art and fine craft from baroque times side by side with works by
contemporary international artists that deal with similar subject matter and draw
on the baroque aesthetic.

Nationalmuseum is Sweden’s premier museum of art and design. The collections comprise older paintings, sculpture, drawings and graphic art, and applied art and design up to the present day. The museum building is currently under renovation and scheduled to open again in 2017.
