Nationalmuseum in Stockholm will be supported by a new American Friends Foundation
Nationalmuseum in Stockholm has a new partner in The American Friends of the Nationalmuseum of Sweden Foundation. The Foundation, which was founded this spring, will promote Nationalmuseum's work through, among other things, support for new acquisitions of art and design.
Nationalmuseum is one of the oldest art museums in Europe with the task of preserving the cultural heritage as well as promoting interest in and knowledge of art. It is Sweden’s premier museum of art and design. Its remarkable collections comprise older paintings, sculpture, drawings and graphic art, and applied art and design up to the present day. In its activities, the museum also integrates an international and intercultural exchange.
"Cooperation with The American Friends of the Nationalmuseum of Sweden Foundation will strengthen Nationalmuseum's extensive international relations with other museums and organizations. With the help of the new friends organization the museum can further develop its position as Sweden's foremost art and design museum", says Berndt Arell, Director General of the government authority Nationalmuseum, incorporating Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde.
To mark the re-opening of the Nationalmuseum building in Stockholm in 2018 and to further develop the museum’s trans-Atlantic collaboration, The American Friends of the Nationalmuseum of Sweden Foundation was founded by a group of US-based supporters. The Foundation’s mission is to support and foster the understanding and appreciation of art and design, which includes promoting and supporting the work of Nationalmuseum. The Foundation will also have a US-based membership program, which will give members access to activities such as exhibitions, lectures, and educational initiatives related to the Nationalmuseum and to art and design generally.
The President of the board is Mr. David Dangoor, the Principal and Presidentof Innoventive Partners LLC. The other Directors are Mr. Berndt Arell, Director General of Nationalmuseum, Mr. Anders Holst, the Founder and President of Unheard of Music LLC, Mr. Bengt Sjogren, the CEO of Interverbum Technology, and Mrs. Barbro Osher, the Honorary Consul General of Sweden in San Francisco.
“Nationalmuseumis one of the leading museums of the world and also recognized and admired in the United States. We are pleased to be able to contribute to the Nationalmuseum'scontinued development and international network of this leading institution at this important time," says Mr Dangoor, President of the board.
The Foundation will launch its first activities in the US in autumn 2017.
