Hans Gedda exhibition goes on tour to Dunkers kulturhus

Nationalmuseum’s Hans Gedda exhibition is going on tour and will be on show this summer at Dunkers kulturhus in Helsingborg. The exhibition opens on 14 June and runs until 28 September. The 150 artworks on display include several newly added photographs and drawings.

On 14 June, an exhibition on the life and work of photographer Hans Gedda will open at Dunkers kulturhus in Helsingborg. The exhibition has been produced by Nationalmuseum, where it appeared last winter. It has been given a fresh look for Dunkers and expanded to include some additional photographs and drawings by the artist. In all, 150 works will be on show, dating from the 1950s to the present day. Gedda’s celebrated portraits of Angela Davis, Andy Warhol and Nelson Mandela appear alongside equally well-known images of prominent Swedes such as Olof Palme, Birgit Nilsson and Jonas Gardell. The audio guide to the exhibition allows visitors to listen to Hans Gedda telling the stories behind the creation of some of the works. An illustrated exhibition catalogue includes essays by Magnus Olausson and Eva-Lena Karlsson, the exhibition curators at Nationalmuseum, based on their conversations with Gedda.

With the Nationalmuseum building closed for renovation until 2017, the museum is able to loan out artworks from its collections to a greater extent than usual, both within Sweden and worldwide. Selected pieces from the collections are on display in temporary galleries at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (Konstakademien) in Stockholm and in exhibitions co-produced with regional museums and art galleries across Sweden.
