  • New Acquisition: Three English Miniaturists

    Nationalmuseum has acquired three English works by miniaturists Jeremiah Meyer, Ozias Humphry and John Cox Dillman Engleheart. The portraits in question are all examples of the blossoming of portrait miniatures as an art form from the mid-eighteenth to early nineteenth centuries. The acquisitions represent an important addition to the museum’s collection of portrait miniatures.

  • Exhibition about the furniture architect Finn Juhl at Nationalmuseum

    In the spring and summer of 2019, Nationalmuseum will mount an exhibition about the Danish architect and furniture designer Finn Juhl. One of the most influential Scandinavian furniture designers of the 20th century will be presented through an exclusive selection of his furniture, artwork and crafts.

  • New acquisition: Two 18th century portrait drawings

    Nationalmuseum has acquired two 18th century portrait drawings. One is a self-portrait of Louis-Jean-François Lagrenée, while the other, by Johann-Ernst Heinsius, depicts an unknown woman. Both works are fully elaborated and demonstrate a technical virtuosity which captures both the personality and vitality of their subjects.

  • New acquisition: The Seven Years’ Throne by Knut Fjaestad

    Nationalmuseum has recently acquired a so called “stabbestol” chair with large snow-laden branches build up the back. This unique chair was designed and carved by Knut Fjaestad and took seven years to manufacture and it was completed in 1914. The length of the process earned the chair its name, The Seven Years’ Throne.

  • The Danish Golden Age at Nationalmuseum Next Spring

    In the spring and summer of 2019, Nationalmuseum will present the exhibition The Danish Golden Age, which comprises the very best of Danish painting from 1800 to 1864. The exhibition includes more than 300 works and is a joint production by Nationalmuseum, SMK, National Gallery of Denmark and the Petit Palais City of Paris’ Museum of Fine Arts.

  • New acquisition: Uno Åhrén’s unique cabinet from 1924

    In conjunction with the reopening of Nationalmuseum, the association Nationalmusei Vänner has donated Uno Åhrén’s unique cabinet called The Garden of Eden, also known as The Paradise Cabinet. It was displayed in a ladies’ drawing room, or a boudoir, at the 1925 Paris Exhibition, that was furnished by the architect Uno Åhrén.

  • ​New ways to exhibit art and design at the renovated Nationalmuseum

    In parallel with the renovation of Nationalmuseum, extensive work to create totally new presentations of the museum's collections has taken place behind the scenes. Among other things, visitors notice that the various art forms are displayed side by side, accompanied by a chronological narrative.

  • The children are first to arrive at Nationalmuseum

    After five years of moving, renovation and reconstruction, Nationalmuseum once again opens its doors to visitors on 13 October. But on 10 October the museum is giving a sneak peek to school children from Boden in the north to Hässleholm in the south. They will get to see, listen to, taste and create things along with the museum’s art educators.

  • ​Nationalmuseum reopens on 13 October

    On Saturday 13 October, Nationalmuseum will reopen its doors after five years of moving, renovations and reconstruction. At 11.00, the inauguration ceremony will commence on the museum steps outdoors with an inaugural speech. HM King Carl will then cut the ribbon and there will be musical performances by Tensta Gospel Choir, KITOK, Frida Hyvönen and Sofia Karlsson.
